Volunteer

We always need new volunteers. Enjoyment of all kinds comes from such involvement.

If you can spare an hour or two a week to help with befriending a local resident, transport (drivers), lunch club (social activities), hosting at the Pulborough Pop-In or would like to help with administrative work in any way, come and join us. You can be sure of a warm welcome.

Benefits of Volunteering:

Gain new skills and knowledge

You don’t need any qualifications or experience to be a volunteer.  We will give you all the support and training you need.

Meet new people and connect with your community

Being part of our team of volunteers provides lots of opportunities to meet new people and make friends.

Being a volunteer widens our knowledge of the people, places, groups and activities that are on our doorstep.

Make a difference to someone’s life

You can make an amazing difference to someone simply by meeting with them.  Whether it’s a chat or supporting someone to find and join in with local activities or groups, you will make a difference to the life of that person.

Feel good

Letting people in our community know that they are not alone and are supported with their needs, is extremely rewarding.  When we do something good for someone else, we feel happier and better about ourselves and it improves our confidence and mental wellbeing.

Belonging to local clubs and societies makes people healthier, according to recent scientific research. From cricket to choirs, and darts to dancing, local clubs are good for us all because, it seems, belonging where we live is important to our health.

Volunteering is a wonderful way to be part of Pulborough life, so why not consider joining us? Currently we are looking for a number of volunteers and would love to hear from you if you think you might like to help.

Volunteer Drivers urgently needed

The Pulborough Community Transport scheme has been running for many years, providing transport for mainly older or housebound people living in and around Pulborough. The Community Transport service helps people to attend doctor, dentist, hospital and other medical appointments where they are unable to use public transport. The service is provided by volunteers using their own cars or in our wheelchair accessible vehicle, driven by a volunteer driver.

Some journeys are short and local, whilst others may be to Chichester or East Grinstead for hospital appointments, which will be considerably longer.

We really need more volunteer drivers, particularly to cover the local journeys. Our clients live mainly in Pulborough or West Chiltington. If you have a spare hour or so a week (not necessarily the same day / time) and would like to help local people in need, then please contact Christine Lindsay, our service co-ordinator and she will provide further information. You must have a valid driving licence and your car must be insured for you to drive. Expenses can be paid.

Become a Volunteer Friend

We are looking for volunteers to meet or visit people in Pulborough and West Chiltington communities who are experiencing loneliness or social isolation.

Our Volunteer Friends make a huge difference by giving as little as 1 hour a week to visit someone lonely either in their home or to meet in the local community.  The people we support vary considerably in age, background, circumstances and interests and our Volunteer Friends are carefully matched to create lasting friendships that support and encourage them to find and join in with local activities and groups.

If you would like to be part of our team of Volunteer Friends and make a difference to someone in our local community, please call Lynn on 07305 020595 or email lynn@pdcca.org.uk. Lynn doesn’t work full time but do leave her a message and she will get back to you as soon as she can.

On behalf of all our appreciative clients, thank you for reading this article and we’d love to hear from you if you think you could help.
