Champs Hill 2025
In June, the High Sheriff of West Sussex, Dr. Tim Fooks, held a summer reception at Champs Hill.
During his year as High Sheriff, Dr. Fooks is focusing on supporting people who suffer from isolation and mental health issues.
Throughout his 30 and more years as a GP in Pulborough, Dr. Fooks has admired the Pulborough and District Community Care Association (PDCCA) and the way it has continued to grow and develop more services for local residents – while remaining a volunteer-run charity.
PDCCA has been helping and supporting people in Pulborough and the surrounding villages since 1966. As such, PDCCA plays a vital role in the life of the local community. They provide a weekly Lunch and Social Club, a weekly Pop-In for parents and babies, a Befriending Service and a Community Transport scheme. They have also recently started a new community cooking initiative.
At his summer reception, Dr. Fooks supported PDCCA’s fundraising through an auction of tremendous prizes. The auction prizes included ‘A Day at Nutbourne Vineyard’, dinner and accommodation at The Swan Inn, Cream Tea at Bailiffscourt, membership at Goodwood Kennels Private Club, seats in the Chairman’s Private Box at Glyndebourne, a Cowdray Picnic Hamper, Wiston’s Sundowner Vineyard Safari Tour and dinner, and a day’s sailing and lunch with the High Sheriff himself!
Among the guests, we had Deputy Lieutenants, Lords and Ladies, Judges, Local MP and district counsellors, GP’s, representatives of local charities, members of the police service and regular donators to PDCCA. It was a wonderful evening for all to get to know each other and build relationships.
Both Dr. Fooks and PDCCA are deeply grateful to Mary Bowerman for hosting the reception at Champs Hill, to Rupert Toovey for being the auctioneer and to all those who contributed their time and gifts so generously to this event.
